APPLICATION PACKET

The Haralson County Fire Department serves as the primary response team for fires, medical emergencies, disasters, and acts of terrorism, ensuring the safety of residents and visitors alike. Covering unincorporated areas and the Cities of Buchanan, Tallapoosa, and Waco, the department operates 12 stations over 283 square miles, safeguarding nearly 13,000 homes and 500 businesses.

Established in 1965, the department has transitioned from a volunteer force to a dedicated 24/7/365 operation, staffed by 70 professional firefighters and support personnel. The daily operations are overseen by the Battalion Chief, who works a 48-hour on-duty shift followed by 96 hours off.

Originally founded by local community members who recognized the need for fire protection, the department began without county funding. These pioneers donated land for stations, raised funds for equipment, and volunteered their time to ensure their neighborhoods were safe. Over time, county support grew, assisting with station amenities and fuel.

Beyond firefighting, the department plays a vital role in emergency medical response and hazardous material incidents. Firefighters undergo rigorous training to meet Georgia's Firefighter Standards and Training Act requirements, ensuring they are prepared for any scenario.

The Haralson County Fire Department also manages the Emergency Management Homeland Security Agency, responsible for disaster preparedness and response. While not equipped with ambulances, firefighters serve as first responders on critical medical calls, supporting local ambulance services.

In addition to their operational duties, the department is committed to public safety through fire prevention, investigation, and education programs, making significant contributions to the community's overall safety and homeland security efforts.

The mission of the Haralson County Fire Department is to serve the communities of Haralson County by protecting life, property, and the environment.

To qualify as Georgia-certified firefighters, individuals must meet strict criteria, including age, physical fitness, educational background, and moral character. This ensures a highly qualified and capable firefighting force dedicated to protecting Haralson County.
