Call for General Primary Election

Notice is hereby given that, in accordance with O.C.G.A. § 21-2-540, a General Primary election shall be held in Haralson County on May 21, 2024, for the following federal, state, and local offices:

  • U.S. Representative, District 3
  • State Senate District 30
  • State House of Representatives, District 18
  • District Attorney, Tallapoosa Judicial Circuit
  • Probate Judge
  • Clerk of Superior Court
  • Sheriff
  • Tax Commissioner
  • Surveyor
  • Coroner
  • Magistrate Judge
  • County Commission, Chairman
  • County Commission, Districts 1 & 3
  • County Board of Education, Districts 1 & 4
  • Justice, Supreme Court of Georgia
  • Judge, Court of Appeals
  • Superior Court Judge, Tallapoosa Judicial Circuit

A Special Election shall be held in Haralson County for the purpose of submitting to the voters to amend an Act to provide a homestead exemption from Haralson County School District ad valorem taxes for educational purposes approved April 9, 1999 (Ga. L. 1999, p. 4087), as amended, so as to increase the amount of the exemption and repeal a maximum income restriction.

Shall the Act to provide for a homestead exemption from all Haralson County School District ad valorem taxes for educational purposes for residents who are 65 years of age or over be amended to increase the amount of the exemption to the full assessed value of the homestead and repeal a maximum income restriction?"

All persons desiring to vote for approval of the Act shall vote "Yes," and all persons desiring to vote for rejection of the Act shall vote "No." If more than one-half of the votes cast on such question are for approval of the Act, Section 1 of this Act shall become of full force and effect on January 1, 2025. If the Act is not so approved or if the election is not conducted as provided in this section, Section 1 of this Act shall not become effective, and this Act shall be automatically repealed on the first day of July immediately following that election date. The expense of such election shall be borne by Haralson County. It shall be the election superintendent’s duty to certify the result thereof to the Secretary of State.

All persons who are not registered to vote and who desire to register to vote in the General Primary election may register to vote through the close of business on April 22, 2024.

?Early Voting for the May 21, 2024, General Primary will begin April 29, 2024, until May 17, 2024, between the hours of 8:30 am and 5:00 pm. Saturday voting will be held Saturday, May 4, 2024, and Saturday, May 11, 2024, between the hours of 8:30 am and 5:00 pm. Early voting and Saturday voting will be conducted at the Haralson County Courthouse: 4485 Georgia Highway 120, Buchanan, GA. Anyone desiring a mail out absentee ballot may contact the Board of Elections and Registration Office at 770-646-2010 for an application. No absentee ballot applications will be accepted or mailed after May 10, 2024. Polls will be open from 7:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Election Day.
