Haralson County boasts a strong economy with a growing and skilled work force and easy access to major markets. We embrace positive growth and change. Our county government is business friendly and we have a strong Chamber of Commerce to assist businesses both large and small.

Our elected officials and development representatives roll out the red carpet and provide extremely individualized and personalized service — the opposite of what potential industries encounter in large cities. We have a skilled work force eager to embrace change and learn new skills. And then there is community pride, something not found in larger metropolitan areas. Our people are loyal and dedicated to their community and their work.

Plenty of inexpensive land is still available for development in Haralson County. Georgia West Business Park is a community owned, fully entitled site located on US Highway 27 with rail service from Norfolk Southern, seven Miles from I-20 and within an hour of Atlanta and Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. We also have easy access to the world-class Port of Savannah and two federal Highways. U.S. 27 is a designated as a Governor's Road Improvement Program (GRIP) developmental highway corridor which will eventually be widened to four lanes (mostly divided) from the Florida state line to the Tennessee state line. U.S. 78 enters Georgia in Haralson County, and connects our county to Atlanta, Athens and Augusta.

The Appalachian Regional Port, CSX Railway’s Class I train link to the Port of Savannah, is about 85 miles from Buchanan. It allows goods going to or from the Port of Savannah to bypass Atlanta; it handles more than a thousand containers a week.

Our quality of life sets us apart. Housing is less expensive than in most regions of the United States. Property taxes are low. Violent crime is basically non-existent. Our people  are refreshingly friendly. We enjoy a pleasant climate with four distinct seasons. Civic groups and churches are active and they welcome new residents; every major religious denomination is represented. The region offers innumerable places to go and things to do when your family and friends come to visit.

While some people crave the energetic pace of a big city, living in a quieter community has its perks, especially in terms of work-life balance. Metropolitan areas can take a toll on residents while small-town life can be less stressful but just as productive.

With jobs opportunities more abundant in big cities, the turnover rate tends to be higher than it is in smaller towns. But that doesn’t mean the workforce outside of big cities is any less qualified. Rather, the talent in smaller markets is generally eager to pursue new job opportunities
