Economic Development

The seven-member Haralson County Development Authority was established in October 1982 to promote trade, commerce, industry, and employment opportunities in Haralson County and its municipalities. The board members and staff are an active, forward-thinking team seeking to diversify our economy, encouraging business retention and expansion to improve the lives of our residents.

The Haralson County Development Authority is the primary point of contact for economic development projects. The authority works closely with local industry, the county commissioners, city council members, community leaders and state economic developers to achieve its goal of continuing economic growth.

The Development Authority is responsible for the recruitment of new businesses in the areas of industrial, manufacturing, distribution, corporate and regional headquarters, customer service centers, and offers assistance with other major economic development projects in the county.

Recruitment of industry is a significant function; yet, aiding in existing industry growth and retention is just as significant. Statistics show that 80 percent of new jobs come as a result of existing industry expansion. The Development Authority provides support to existing industries and assists in connecting them with local community for projects, such as facility expansions or workforce development.

Under Georgia law, the Authority may offer incentives, such as tax abatements, to new industries locating in the county and to help existing industries expand. These incentives help recruit new industries and the county benefits by job creation.

Additionally, the Development Authority works to:

  • Market Haralson County to the industrial development community
  • Supply affordable land and industrial sites
  • Issue industrial revenue bonds and pollution control bonds
  • Promote Georgia Tax Credits/ Tier 1 County
  • Provide essential demographic data

Multiple sites are available in the county including more than 150 acres in the Georgia West Business Park in Buchanan, that feature ideal strategic locations for industries that seek connectivity to rapidly growing markets and the major metropolitan areas of the Southeast.

With three truck-friendly exits on Interstate 20, Haralson County and the cities of Bremen, Buchanan, Tallapoosa and Waco are ready to do business. Haralson County is strategically located only 45 miles from the busiest airport in the world, Hartsfield Jackson International Airport in Atlanta. Haralson County is less than a four-hour interstate drive to the largest single-terminal container facility of its kind in North America and the nation’s second-busiest container port at Savannah.
