Planning Commission

The Planning Commission is a recommending body that considers and reviews zoning decisions for the county commissioners. The Planning Commission is responsible for the review and authorization of development permits, rezonings, Special Land Use Permits and UDO (Unified Development Ordinance) text amendments.

The planning commission consists of not less than five members and no more than seven members, who must be residents of the county, or own real property in the county, appointed by the board of commissioners. A majority of the members must hold no other public office in the county.

The members serve staggered terms of four years. Any vacancy in membership is appointed for the unexpired term by the county commissioners, who also have the authority to revoke the appointment for cause, on written charges, after a public hearing. All members serve without compensation but may be reimbursed for actual expenses incurred in connection with their official duties.

The Planning Commission meets on the first Tuesday of each month where Commissioners have public hearings and make their recommendations.
