Board of Elections and Registration

LEARN MORE: ELECTIONS AND VOTING

The Haralson County Board of Elections and Registration, created by legislation in 2001, organizes and oversees all election activity, including voter registration, on the local level. The five-member board is appointed by the local political party’s executive committee, the grand jury, and the Superior Court Judge. Their primary focus is to ensure the election process is conducted accurately and proficiently as they prepare and conduct countywide elections under the direction of State of Georgia Election Laws.

It is also the responsibility of this office to report current and past election results to the Secretary of State. On Election Day results are updated throughout the night after all polls are closed at 7 p.m.

The Judge of the Superior Court appoints the Election Superintendent who is responsible for conducting fair and impartial elections. The Board of Elections and Registrations appoints the chief registrar clerk and deputy registrar clerk to register local residents to vote and maintain the voters' list. Elections and registration are conducted in accordance with the Georgia Election code, U.S. Justice Department Regulations, State Election Board Rules, and Federal, and Local Laws.

The Board of Elections and Registration oversees the annual budget for the Election Office and all activity conducted by the Election Superintendent.  The Board ensures that all services and functions necessary to support the election process are performed.

The Election Superintendent conducts primaries and elections in accordance with State law.  The Election Superintendent secures facilities to serve as polling locations for these precincts, recruits, selects, hires, trains, and assigns personnel to serve as poll officials. The Superintendent also conducts qualifications for candidates, develops ballots for elections, acquires, maintains, prepares, and delivers equipment used to conduct elections, publicizes notices as required by law, and maintains elections records.
