Drug Court

The Tallapoosa Circuit Drug Court and Intervention Program is a 24-month, court-supervised, comprehensive outpatient treatment program for adults who have pled guilty to one or more non-violent felony or misdemeanor drug-related offenses and who are having difficulty staying clean and sober.

This is a collaborative effort between the Superior Court, District Attorney's Office, Department of Correctional Services, Public Defender’s Office, local law enforcement agencies, Department of Family and Children Services, and substance misuse treatment providers.

The mission of the program is to stop the misuse of alcohol and other drugs and thus reduce crime and recidivism by substance-abusing offenders. This collaborative effort empowers misusers to maintain a drug-free life. The program provides individuals with judicially supervised substance misuse treatment and rehabilitation. It includes frequent court appearances, random drug testing, group counseling, family counseling, and individual counseling.

Also, the drug court program requires participants to attend community-based meetings each week, abide by a curfew, secure full-time employment, complete volunteer hours, and pay a total of $1500.00 in participation fees before their graduation.

The goals of the Tallapoosa Circuit Drug Court and Intervention Program are to:

  • Reduce participant contact with the criminal justice system
  • Reduce costs associated with criminal case processing and recidivism
  • Reduce jail overcrowding
  • Introduce participants to an ongoing process of recovery designed to achieve total abstinence from illegal drugs and/or alcohol misuse
  • Promote self-sufficiency and empower substance misusers to become productive and responsible members of the community.
